Palworld Beginner's Guide: Your First Day
Jul 10, 2026
Just crash-landed in Palworld? Here's how to make it through your first hour — catch a few Pals, throw up a camp, and stay fed and warm through the night.
Welcome to Palworld! Your first day on the islands can feel like a lot — you're cold, unarmed, and surrounded by Pals — so let's keep it simple and get you on your feet.
Your first hour
Don't overthink it. Your goals for the first hour are small and concrete:
- Gather wood and stone from the world around you.
- Catch a few weak Pals to help you (more on that below).
- Craft a couple of spheres, a workbench, and a campfire.
- Set down your first base and get a fire going before dark.
Everything else can wait. You're just trying to get a roof over your head and a few helpers at your side.
Catch a few Pals
The Pals wandering near your spawn are the gentlest in the game, and they make excellent first catches. Look for Lamball, Cattiva, Chikipi, Lifmunk, and Vixy — all easy to find and easy to weaken.
To catch one, chip its health down first, then throw a sphere. A weakened Pal — especially one hit from behind — gives you far better odds. If you want to know the chances before you throw, our catch-rate estimator does the math for you.
Not sure where a particular Pal roams? The interactive map plots spawn points across the world, so you can head straight to the ones you want.
Throw up a first base
Once you've got a couple of Pals, place a Palbox to claim your base. Pick somewhere flat, near trees and stone, and ideally close to water. Assign your new Pals to the base and watch them start hauling, crafting, and gathering while you explore.
Your early Pals cover the basics — gathering materials, working the crafting bench, and tending your first plot. To see exactly which jobs a Pal is suited for, check its page in the Paldeck.
Food, warmth, and the night
Two things will try to end your first day: hunger and cold.
- Food: Keep berries or cooked food on hand. A berry plot and a cooking spot at your base will keep you and your Pals fed. Hungry Pals work slower and get grumpy.
- Warmth: Nights get cold, and some regions are freezing. A campfire keeps you warm; better armor comes later.
- Night: Stronger Pals come out after dark, and it's harder to see. Early on, it's fine to hole up at base, craft, and cook until morning.
Take it slow. Your first night is about surviving, not conquering.
What's new in Palworld 1.0
Palworld 1.0 is a big one. The Paldeck jumped from around 216 to 288 entries — 204 base Pals plus 84 elemental and subspecies variants — so there's far more to find and catch. There's also a sprawling new World Tree region to explore, plus reworked boss towers and sanctuaries.
Breeding got a new layer too, called Genetic Recombination, which can fuse legendary traits into offspring. It's advanced, late-game stuff — the odds vary by server and aren't publicly documented, so don't sweat it on day one. When you're ready, our breeding calculator covers classic species pairings (it won't predict recombination results).
Where to go next
You've survived your first day — nice work. As you catch more Pals, start tracking them in your collection so you can watch your Paldeck fill in and figure out what to chase next. Come holler at us when you catch something good.
